I was using the following equipment to receive your broadcast: Icom 756Pro3 transceiver and an 40-meter Carolina Windom wire antenna, 60 feet long strung between 3 trees 40 feet high. The antenna is oriented NE – SW. My digital noise reduction was set for 40%; the bandwidth filter was set to 6.0 khz and I turned on both stages of pre-amplification (6 dB's).

I work in the office of a small firm, all day I spend at the computer, often listen to your radio station, and the whole staff of our organization is listening to you, we are almost the fans of your radio, really like your music , leading programs. Always interesting to hear what is happening in neighboring countries. Hard working days, your radio is helping ordinary office manager to work out all week and on Friday evening when labor weekdays have been completed, your radio is helping to distract from the work and calmly to the weekend with his family. But in our country there is no opportunity to see small souvenirs with logos of your radio, such as a corporate icon, pens, pencils, cord with carabiner, bottle opener, a lighter, stickers, t-shirts , backpacks. ... All that can remind me of your radio. I am writing to request you to send me if you have such a product with your logo, if it does not entail significant costs for your radio. Wow, I've had the chance to read the here more closely, and I just don't know what to bark about the comments on the Grenade and what you think about it, I'm moved.. especially after all of this time, and here it is still being thought of. I mean, you know the life of a technical idea is not usually very long.

I found out that I had the Dog connection at 11, after seeing The Shaggy DA. That movie had a wild effect on me, and I started to 'play Dog' and later get into the idea of being one, that I was a pooch somehow, more and more as time went on.

Being a Dog is my true identity, feeling Canine as I go about my day and trying to live like one as much as I need to, to be comfortable and feel that my life is good and more complete. You could think of it maybe as a spirit or totem animal that has become a large part of my identity and personality. My breed is the Pyrenean Shepherd.

I had wanted to legally change my name to Boomer The Dog for many years, but put it off for one reason or another. As I grew as a Dog though, it was clear that something had to give, so I decided to really do it this year.

I really wasn't expecting much publicity at all, maybe a local news story at most after it was done, but the whole thing just took off. See, as part of the name-change process you must publish a legal notice in local newspapers. It's just a little paragraph in the classifieds with current and proposed new name being listed, but a newspaper reporter got a lead on it and was waiting outside of the courtroom to do an interview. I didn't know it would go AP and more, since to me it was just about getting my rightful name..

As for radio, I fell for it at 12 pretty hard, Radio Shack AM broadcast kit, CB, etc., but I had liked radio, thermometers, gauges and stuff since I was about 5, and I have a hobby interest in it, not going to school to study it or really caring to have a career in it, just thinking that if I fell into a position, that would be nice..

When I did my local Dog Station in high school every week, I'd think it would be cool to be discovered as a DJ talent and asked to go on the air at a commercial station. I did get discovered when a local all around radio guy found me through a network of his friends, and then tracked my signal down by driving around, and with a portable radio over a few months I guess.

For a while he just listened, fearful that he would scare me off of the air by making contact, so he didn't do it until he got the nerve. 'Joe Radio' was also connected with the shortwave DX scene somewhat, and he's responsible for me getting into that aspect of radio when I did, giving me tips on the frequencies, taking me to a hamfest for radio parts, and saying that there would be listeners out there waiting for signals to come on.

I had already known about pirates and hobby broadcasting from the debut Popular Communications issue which I found at a thrift store, and hearing Radio Newyork Intl. from their ship, but I guess the time wasn't right to consider out of band frequencies, so I stayed on my 1580 transmitter until I had that personal contact with the listener and DXer a few years later.

I DJed on The Dog Station every week for 7 years, with soul, album rock and disco tracks mostly, though I'd play almost anything. It was a great way to stay in touch with my music collection!

The real issue here is the right to use the name of your choice, and to have it changed legally. In fact, that's what the court would rather you to do, instead of using an alias! I know that it's unusual, but is this a free country or not? Even if there is some risk, shouldn't I be free to choose to take on that risk or not?

MEMORANDUM
Presently before this Court is the Verified Petition for a Name Change, filed on behalf of Gary Guy Mathews. Mr. Mathews seeks to change his name to "Boomer the Dog." In his Petition, Mr. Mathews states: "I've been known as Boomer the Dog by friends in the community for more than 20 years. I want to bring my legal name in line with that."

Pennsylvania law on the subject is well-settled. "[T]he primary purpose of the Judicial Change of Name Statute...is to prohibit fraud by those attempting to avoid financial obligations." Matter of Mclntyre, 715 A.2d 400, 402 (1998). There are, however, other considerations: "a court may properly exercise its wide discretion to refuse a requested name if the name is bizarre or unduly lengthy or difficult to pronounce or possessive of a ridiculous offensive connotation...A court must, therefore, discharge its discretion in a way as to comport with good sense, common decency, and fairness to all concerned and to the public." In re Ravitch, 754 A.2d 1287,1289 (Pa. Super. 2000).

On the record before this Court, there is no indication that Mr. Mathews is seeking the name change in order to avoid financial obligations. My concern, however, is that the proposed name change is reasonably likely to have consequences adverse to the public interest. It is easy to see that Petitioner's use of the proposed name is likely to result in confusion in the marketplace, confusion in business records and confusion in public documents. Moreover, the proposed name change would have unintended consequences, putting the public welfare at risk. Consider the following example: The Court grants Petitioner the right to use the proposed name legally and exclusively. Sometime thereafter, Petitioner witnesses a serious automobile accident and telephones for an emergency medical response. The dispatcher on the phone queries as to the caller's identity, and the caller responds, "this is Boomer the Dog." It is not a stretch to imagine the telephone dispatcher concluding that the call is a prank and refusing therefore to send an emergency medical response.

In short, because of the strong likelihood of confusion and the opportunity for adverse consequences to the public that would be engendered by the proposed name change, I am this date denying Petitioner's request. Although Petitioner apparently wishes it were otherwise, the simple fact remains that Petitioner is not a dog.

The name "Devo" comes "from their concept of 'de-evolution' - the idea that instead of evolving, mankind has actually regressed, as evidenced by the dysfunction and herd mentality of American society."^[2] This idea was developed as a joke by Kent State University art studentsGerald Casale and Bob Lewis as early as the late 1960s. Casale and Lewis created a number of satirical art pieces in a devolution vein. At this time, Casale had also performed with the local band 15-60-75 (The Numbers Band). They met Mark Mothersbaugh around 1970, who introduced them to the pamphlet "Jocko Homo Heavenbound",^[3] which includes an illustration of a winged devil labeled "D-EVOLUTION" and would later inspire the song "Jocko Homo". The first form of Devo was the "Sextet Devo" which performed at the 1973 Kent State performing arts festival. Devo later formed as a quartet. They recruited Mark's brothers Bob Mothersbaugh and Jim Mothersbaugh. Bob played electric guitar, and Jim provided percussion using a set of homemade electronic drums. This lineup of Devo lasted until 1976 when Jim left the band. The lineup was occasionally fluid, and Bob Lewis would sometimes play guitar during this period. In concert, Devo would often perform in the guise oftheatrical characters, such as Booji Boy, and The Chinaman. Live concerts from this period were often confrontational, and would remain so until 1977. Just when you think you have seen it all... On my way home from work today there was a car ahead of me swerving all over the place.. Well I was curious what the distraction could possibly be, so i closed in a little closer to find out. This person was messing with their hair, and looking in the rear view mirror, not only that but upon closer inspection I noticed that they had a comb in one hand , and a pair of scissors in the other. Thats right this clown was giving himself a haircut driving down the road. Have you ever tried cutting your own hair in your bathroom mirror? Not an easy task.. never mind doing it while driving.... WTF was this clown thinking.. Not to mention the mess I am sure it made... When I got on the interstate this a$$clown was all smiling and schit looking in his rear view admiring his handy work, I dropped down a gear in my jeep and put my foot to the floor. I have seen alotta ppl doing alotta stupid schit in my life... I am having a problem wrapping my mind around this one!!!

Tonight on Radio Jamba International we will have a live interview via the telephone with Mr. George Zeller author of the outer limits in Bob Groves Monitoring Times magazine. Monitoring time magazine has decided to drop Mr. Zeller's column after a scientific poll they conducted asking readers what they would like to see more of in this publication. Unfortunately this poll as all polls are is actually quite unfounded and flawed, according to the response to Mr. Groves decision I have witnessed. The overwhelming response in the Free Radio Community seems to be that this is a very poor business decision by Mr. Groves and will result in a drop of subscriptions as well as be the topic of conversation in the free radio community for some time to come. Also dropped by Mr. Groves was Glen Hausers column covering shortwave radio reports. It is a great loss to the shortwave community that Mr. Groves has bestowed upon us . Thanks for nothing Bob.

I am located about 50 km from the most easterly point in North America. If you would like to see my exact location, serach "Garden Place, Conception Bay South, Canada" in Google maps. If you choose the satellite shot, my house is third from last on the south side of the road. (It has a large white patio behind the house, and you can see two small ponds at the edge of the woods.) I have lots of room for antennas, and currently have a 24 m long wire north-south, a 75 m long wire east-west and a 300m unterminated beverage pointing southwest. (The 75m gave best reception for your signal.)

It was really nice hearing Radio Jamba International for the first time. I look forward to your reply, and hope to hear you again soon.

Your signal was snatched outta the aether by a DX Engineering DX-A "twin sloper" antenna and demodulated by an Icom R-75 receiver. I don't believe I had to use any of the "bells & whistles" available to hear the signal, but I really don't recall at this point.

I live in the sleepy little hamlet of Belfast, in Allegany County, about 65 miles SE from Buffalo, 60 miles South of Richester, 80 miles West of Elmira, 30 miles North of the PA line, and at least 20 miles from anywhere. Belfast is in a primarily agricultural area; there is one single AM station in the county, which is about 25 miles from me - so it's a pretty quiet RF area and a good place for me to pursue my radio-listening habit. I mean HOBBY, of course... ;)

If this report is found to be correct, I would appreciate receiving your QSL card or letter for my collection. I think that you should have the address. An eQSL is also acceptable, of course.

Studio Upgrade

Today We upgraded the studio with a few new tools that will hopefully improve the voice audio quality. First is a Behringer C-3 studio microphone as seen in the photo hanging from the shelf. Secondly is a Behringer Eurorack UB802 mixing board. Unfortunately my old board did not supply the Phantom power required to power the new microphone so it was necessary to upgrade to a board that did. Also added to the studio is a Buffalo 1 Terabyte external hard drive for additional media storage above and beyond the 500 gig external we already use. Thoughts on Iran

Unless you have been under a rock for the past week, you have seen the news of the protests in Iran. Their election is a joke. Their current regime is more along the line of a dictatorship with their regulation of the exchange of information and their attempts to silence their citizens voices by interfering with Internet access as well as cellular communications. The Iranian government is delusional if they think that they can silence the voices of their citizens. The rest of the free world stands behind the people of Iran in this revolution that is going on as their current government is grasping at straws to maintain control of the people of Iran. This is basically oppression as well as extreme censorship By the Iranian government against their own people whom they are supposed to represent.

This is turning into a modern day Cyber war . The people Of Iran are not stupid, their government's attempt to throttle the Internet in their country is being met with harsh opposition by the geeks and hackers of the world via proxies and hidden links on websites that bypass the filtering that the Iranian government has put in place in an effort to silence it own people. The Iranian government is currently on a witch hunt to locate individuals who are posting information pertaining to the current events in their country. It is no wonder that the people of Iran are outraged and want to know where their vote went . I have heard banter of people in other countries using proxies that revert to Iranian IP#'s in support of the revolt in an effort to flood the "witch hunters" with an influx of bogus ip's thus slowing the witch hunt with faux proxies leading them on wild goose chase.

No one on the face of this planet deserves to be treated in the manner that the Iranian people are being treated by their own government. Their governments action's in this matter make it pretty obvious to this author, as well as the rest of the free world that they are in the wrong. Hopefully the Iranian government will be forced to concede to their own injustices to their own people by the citizens of Iran.
